I found this video on the Craft Magazine blog. It is of fiber artist Robyn Love's crocheted 10,000 gallon water tower cozy.
The project used 32 MILES of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn!

ok that's pretty silly. She did this because...? I looked to see if it had some practical value and I don't see any record of necessity. So 6 people spent 3 weeks of their life crocheting madly just because they thought it would look cool? I want to know who these people are and why they had nothing better to do. I guess I just don't have the perspective of an artist huh?
